Adventure As Legacy

Since large carnivore ecologist Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant was a child, she was interested in wild animals—especially big, toothy ones. But it wasn’t until she studied abroad in Kenya in her early 20s that Rae wore hiking boots, camped, or saw an animal in the wild. Fast forward to now, where her office is often a campsite and studying large carnivores up close is routine—though still exciting. Experiences outdoors have been influential in Rae’s life and career, and she brings that influence into her parenting, too. “I think it [being outdoors] builds a sense of confidence, fearlessness, and exploration that I really want my children to have.”
